This 64 bed Emergency Care Centre was commissioned in December 2001 and sees approximately 47,000 patients per year. This makes it a busy department, servicing a large multicultural population base. Although not a Major Trauma centre, a team of highly skilled doctors and nurses attend to all the acute presentations including, emergency medicine, Orthopaedic, Surgical, Gynaecological, and Medical, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This hospital has a large nursing workforce that works well together in a team-based model and are excited about the development of a new purpose built stand alone 34 designated bed Emergency Department and 50 bed Assessment Unit which we will move into in 2011. A supportive team environment has been developed, which respects and values the contribution of the individual. All new staff are provided with an individualised orientation and development programme to meet their needs.
