Job Description

Purpose of the Position

This position is part of the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and Counselling team, within the department: Primary Care Services.

  • This role provides effective and comprehensive assessment and evidenced based therapeutic support/interventions and individual case management that is appropriate, holistic, family inclusive and culturally sensitive for younger people (16 years and older) and adults living with substance abuse problems and complex needs, including dual diagnosis. The AOD Clinician makes appropriate and supported referrals to other AOD service types as required and create linkages to other relevant support services that will enhance the broad recovery outcomes for clients.
  • The AOD Clinician role is based at Portland District Health (PDH) to provide a recovery orientated practice model and a harm minimization philosophy with the goal of reducing substance use and related harm for clients and their families and significant supports. The work may be undertaken in the inpatient, outpatient, and primary care and community settings and includes the provision of outreach services.
  • You can choose part time or full time hours, these will be negotiable.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  1. Registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and a current annual practicing certificate
  2. Demonstrated experience in the engagement of and provision of counselling to people with problematic substance abuse issues, including Dual Diagnosis and other evidence based approaches.
  3. Demonstrated ability in ensuring care coordination across a range of service networks and referral pathways which allow of the best outcome for clients and their families.
  4. Well-developed understanding of harm of harm minimization principles and practice across a range of AOD and other psycho-social domains.
  5. Proven ability to work with a range of people (including specific client groups such as Aboriginal, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Forensic clients) in a non-judgmental and respectful manner.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated effective communication (written and verbal), negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  8. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
