Located 20 minutes away from central Wellington, in Porirua, Nga Taiohi is the state of the art, 10 bed, National Secure Youth Forensic unit, which opened in April 2016.
The only national inpatient service for young offenders with acute severe mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues, the service is part of Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAID) 3DHB.
Nga Taiohi is a bi-cultural service and is co-located with the Acute Youth Mental Health Inpatient Unit (Rangatahi) and the Youth Intellectual Disability (ID) Inpatient Unit (Hikitia Te Wairua) collectively known as the ‘The Youth Centre for Excellence’ at Kenepuru Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and committed Registered Nurses to join the National Youth Secure Forensic Inpatient team. You will work with the MDT toward providing forensic medium-secure services within a framework of Clinical Governance. Along with other members of the nursing team, you will offer specialised assessment and treatment for youth offenders with mental health problems and seek to reduce the distress and risk associated with mental health and behavioural problems.
